Dementia-Friendly Cinema at the Towner:
The next film, on Tuesday, 3rd June at 11.00 a.m. is “ The Salt Path starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Issacs, based on the book by Raynor Winn about how she and her husband (with a bad health diagnosis) are left homeless after legal trouble, so they embark on the 630-mile South West Coast Path. It was a brilliant, inspiring book, which I hope translates well to the big screen.
As before, carers are free, everyone else is £5.00. You can book either via the Towner website or at their reception desk on the day (but this can be a bit of a lengthy process!). There is plenty of parking nearby – if you have a Blue Badge, there is a dedicated carpark on College Road immediately behind the Towner; otherwise there is free on-road parking locally and the larger “tennis” carpark further up College Road.
Changes to Friday Afternoon Sports Group (2nd and 4th Fridays)
As the Hampden Park Indoor Bowling Club is closed over the summer months, we have moved outside too!! Last Friday we tried out the Pétanque at Helen Garden. As the weather can be fickle, the group has decided that, for both Fridays, if the weather is good we’d prefer to be at Helen Gardens (where there is also an option for putting and ice-cream!), but if it’s raining we’ll do 10Pininstead.
So, if you are interested in joining the Friday Afternoon Sports Group, please let me know and I’ll add you to my list of people to contact to confirm venue, depending on the weather forecast!!
News about the Saturday Club
The Saturday Club will be taking a break over the summer months and will restart in the Autumn. We’ve tried all sorts of variations on start time, format, activities, etc., yet this is one of our least attended groups and we would be really grateful to know why people don’t come. Thank you.
What better way to celebrate Volunteers Week 2025 (2nd to 5thJune) than by showcasing our fantastic Volunteers!! Seen here at Bluebell Walk Café!!! [nine photos missing]
Although lots of behind-the-scenes work is needed beforehand, the day itself was great fun!! We also raised a smidgeon over £1,000 for Memory Lane!!
Thank you SO MUCH – we literally couldn’t have done it without you!!!

THANK YOUs - In Memoria, Grants, Donations, and other fund raising
Thank you so much Judith Smith for the £238.54 received in memory of your lovely husband Albert.
Thanks also to Doreen Edwards for the £282.00 given in memory of your wonderful husband Neil.
Many thanks to the British Queen pub’s Coffee morning in February which raised £340.00. And to Mrs. Elaine Birch who oranised a quiz night in Chiddingly Village Hall in March which raised a total of £400.00 (£386.00 from the quiz and £14.00 from Deb and Sue Parsons selling hot drinks in the interval).
It’s also massive thanks to Neil and Madeleine Furminger that we have received, quite literally, a massive cheque for £5,601.26. Memory Lane was chosen as Seaford Masons’ Charity of the Year last year. I know a lot of effort goes into organizing events to raise this amount of money, for which Memory Lane is extremely grateful. Neil also very kindly donated the £132.74 raised from giving a talk about his row across the Atlantic.
And last, but by no means least, I would like to thank everyone who has recently re-donated their Cash Draw winnings: Christine Sutcliffe (£100), Keith Robinson (£40) and Peggy Maskell (£20) respectively.
